How this forecast is built
- Criteria: 45th Weather Squadron / SLD 30 Lightning Launch Commit Criteria, with vehicle-published surface wind and temperature limits.
- Observations: NWS/AWC METAR, NOAA MRMS QPE, GOES cloud-top height, GLM lightning, RainViewer radar, NDBC buoys, HMS smoke.
- Guidance: NWS grid + hourly, AWC TAF, BUFKIT HRRR / Open-Meteo soundings, SPC convective outlooks, local Area Forecast Discussion.
- Learning: Crew-tagged launch outcomes refit per-vehicle logistic weights. Live track record is on the track record page.
- Known gaps: Range field-mill network is not public (always Unknown). Anvil/cumulus beyond GOES cloud-top use CAPE proxies in forecast mode. No official 45 WS L-1 PDF ingest yet — soft-label against those when the crew tags them.
